According to the Japanese website My Navi News, Japanese media previously conducted a survey on men and women aged 20-36 regarding their "understanding of marriage" and released the survey results.
The survey first asked 897 women about their reasons for wanting to get married. 135 women cited "wanting children" as the top reason. Many women felt compelled to marry after seeing the birth of nephews or nieces and witnessing harmonious families. Additionally, some expressed anxiety about being single after seeing their friends start families, thus fueling their desire to marry. Furthermore, 97 women said they wanted to marry because they "wanted to start a family," 71 women cited "loneliness," 69 women cited "wanting a stable and secure life," and 66 women cited being "inspired by their friends getting married."
On the other hand, among 477 men surveyed regarding the same question, 63 answered "because of loneliness," ranking first, indicating that men are very afraid of being alone. Additionally, 35 men said it was because they "want to start a family," 30 said they "want children," 25 said they were "stimulated by friends' weddings," and 22 said they "want a stable and secure life." The ranking order differed slightly from the women's responses.
Furthermore, when asked "In what season or at what time would you like to get married?", the number one answer was "Around Christmas", accounting for 45.6%. Indeed, many single people feel "lonely" around Christmas. Moreover, the dreamy atmosphere of a cold night, with snowflakes and colorful lights, further intensifies the feeling of "wanting to be with the one you love forever." Additionally, the second to fourth most popular answers were "When I see couples and families having a happy moment on the street," "When I attend a wedding ceremony," and "When I hear that a friend has been proposed to and is getting married," showing that people crave companionship when witnessing happiness around them.
The fifth most popular answer was "before events like Valentine's Day and Christmas," followed by "birthdays," "anniversaries," and "the anniversary of when we started dating," indicating that quite a few people want to get married on events or anniversaries. In addition, there were answers like "when I'm living alone and my health isn't good," and "when I suddenly feel like I'm all alone," suggesting that people only consider marriage when they feel insecure or unhappy about life.
