Eyewitness account: Three people jumped into the Yangtze River in succession
On the Longzhou Bay section of Babin Road, there is a pontoon boat moored. Due to its relatively remote location, the pontoon boat mainly operates a catering business and is called "Yanglin Fishing Port". On weekdays, apart from gatherings or banquets, there are not many people coming here.
Ms. Tian, a waitress on the pontoon, told reporters that around 4:10 pm yesterday, she and her colleagues were returning from shopping in Yudong and preparing for their night shift. "When we arrived at the pontoon, we had to go up a flight of stairs. As we were going up the stairs, I suddenly heard someone on the pontoon shouting, 'Someone jumped into the river!'" Ms. Tian's heart skipped a beat, and she looked in the direction of the sound, seeing two figures struggling in the Yangtze River. Before she could react, another figure jumped into the river.
About four or five minutes later, the two people who had been struggling in the river came ashore on the overgrown bank. Ms. Tian was more than 100 meters away from them and could clearly see that they were a man and a woman. The man was wearing a black shirt and trousers, and the woman was wearing a white shirt and red skirt.
The two, soaking wet, collapsed to the ground. Ms. Tian went over to ask if they needed help. "At that time, the two were trembling uncontrollably," Ms. Tian said. During this time, the man was crying and kept blaming the woman: "It's all because of you, it's all because of you..." The woman squatted on the ground, covering her face with her hands and remaining silent.
Because both women's phones were waterlogged and they couldn't call the police, Ms. Tian helped them dial 110 and 119. Soon, rescue personnel from Longzhouwan Police Station and Longzhouwan Fire Brigade arrived. Meanwhile, Yang Zhengquan, an employee of Yanglin Fishing Port, rowed his fishing boat and pulled the woman from the water; unfortunately, she had already lost her vital signs.
Tragedy: A woman died
Last night, Yang Zhengquan told reporters that he was welding his fishing boat when the incident occurred. By the time he noticed, a man and a woman had already swum to the riverbank. "It seemed that the man could swim to some extent, and he pulled and dragged the woman to the shore."
Yang Zhengquan, 48, explained that he is the chief boatswain at Yanglin Fishing Port. "When I learned that a woman was still missing, I immediately steered my fishing boat to search for her," Yang said. He explained that he eventually found the woman's body near the shore using a bamboo pole. He then hooked her clothes with a fishhook and pulled her onto the boat. Several of his colleagues arrived quickly and together they carried the woman to shore, but tragically, she had already passed away.
Yang Zhengquan also told reporters that where the three people fell into the water, there was originally a road leading to the river, where the water was about knee-deep. But a little further out, there was a retaining wall more than 2 meters deep. In addition, the river was quite rapid at the time, and the woman unfortunately drowned there.
"Around noon, a colleague saw the three people arrive at the shore where the incident occurred, and they were making noise from time to time, but no one paid any attention," Ms. Tian said, adding that she learned about it from her colleague.

Previously, the ex-girlfriend had demanded that the current girlfriend leave the man. However, after several hours of negotiation, they still couldn't reach an agreement. Unexpectedly, the ex-girlfriend jumped into the river, and the man, seeing this, jumped in after her without even taking off his clothes. After the accident, the funeral home and 120 medical personnel arrived quickly. After confirming that the woman had no chance of survival, the funeral home vehicle took her away.
