A study from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill suggests that excessive exercise intensity can lower libido in men. Researchers surveyed nearly 1,100 physically active men about their sex lives, examining their views on sex and exercise habits, such as the frequency and intensity of their weekly workouts. Most of these male participants were regular fitness enthusiasts. Based on the duration and intensity of their weekly workouts, researchers divided them into three groups: short-duration, moderate, and long-duration; and light-duration, moderate-duration, and vigorous-duration. Based on their responses to questions about their sex lives, researchers categorized them into three groups: high libido, moderate libido, and low libido. Finally, the researchers compared these men's exercise habits with their interest in and behavior related to sex.
The results showed that men who engaged in light to moderate exercise or exercise for a moderate duration generally had higher libido. Conversely, men who engaged in strenuous exercise or exercised for longer periods tended to have lower libido. Therefore, even when exercising, it's important to pay attention to the intensity and duration of the workout, and avoid overworking before sexual activity.
