The phenomenon of couples resembling each other is a source of much curiosity. Why do couples who live together for many years begin to look more and more alike in appearance, temperament, and features? Is there any scientific basis for this phenomenon?

Why do married couples start to look more and more alike?
Scientists believe there are four reasons for couples looking alike: genes, bacteria, environment, and imitation.
1. Genes
Some American scientists believe that there is a "genetic drive" in the process of dating and marriage. They argue that, in order to protect their own genes, people unconsciously choose to date and marry those with similar genes. A US study involving 825 white couples showed that married couples tend to have more similar genes.
